I've said it before, I'll say it again, this year's batch of American Idol hopefuls seem a tad short of that star-making quality previous season's contestant like Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, heck even Anoop Desai just bring to the stage. But for the past few weeks, one particular Idol hopeful has been making this silly blogger one of his biggest fan.
And last night, with his rendition of Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah, Lee DeWyze has cemented himself and his raw raspy voice as my American Idol bet for this year.
I almost got a little teary eyed in the end too! Love it!

Hilarious Rumor
After waking up at an ungodly hour for a friend's engagement party, it was pretty much a lazy Sunday afternoon for the Hubby and I. But of course, this silly blogger couldn't let her Hubby sleep in peace. While watching The Buzz I saw the picture of my oh so cute newly-born nephew splashed across the screen. *My low pitch shrieks wake up the Hubby* Before happy fingers began speed dialing my sister's number.
Turns out, a picture of my brother-in-law's friend carrying his baby was picked up by news agencies and totally run with the "whole" story despite shall we say, umm, lack of an actual story.
Totally hilarious and gave my nephew his 20 seconds of fame.
Here's the clip from The Buzz of Iya Villania clarifying the nature of the photo.
Update: Today a friend emailed me that Baby Cody's on the front page of Yahoo.Com.Ph.. Totally bananas!

BSG Fanatic Alert
I finally got Dear Hubby to watch Battlestar Galactica! *Hooray* For months now, piles and piles of BSG dvd's have been sitting by their lonesome self, unattended in our game-room, waiting for that fateful day when Dear Hubby finally succumbs to his silly wifey's pressure. That or take pity on the pile that's starting to accumulate dust from neglect. Either way was acceptable to me.
And THAT day has arrived, when silly blogger is no longer the only one in our household to understand the meaning behind the words: Frak, Brig, Starbuck, Caprica, and Number 6! He's still in episode one but I'm seeing signs of early addiction syndrome developing. I've considerably mellowed from the BSG pow-wows while trying to ease him into the whole BSG phenomenon.
The timing couldn't have been more perfect as well. Because after months of chasing after the BSG gameboard in Hobbes and other toy shops, I was finally able to get a hold of a set last March. I (literally) had to pry it away from some random stranger's hands. I know I sound way too geeky, but I promise BSG rocks!

And my obsession continues...
I'm a huge American Idol fan. But this season, the talent seems to be drying up. Maybe it's the news that Simon will soon jump ship to another singing competition show, maybe it's the nerves, or maybe after 9 seasons, A.I. has made stars out of all those deemed with potential and the well of "IT" guys and girls have finally seen its end. Whatever the reason may be, last Tuesday and Wednesday nights performance was a little rough for me to watch. Save for the absolutely adorable-crushable Casey James who IMHO outsang even Brian Adam's himself with his honest/sincere rendition of "Heaven"
The Hubby has given me permission to swoon and openly declare Casey James as my second husband. Thank gawd I'm married to someone who knows just how delusional I am and still loves me. Hee

I love Ricky Gervais at the Globes
I have always been a fan. He's usually the one bright spot in most awards shows, very witty and sadly mostly tagged as a presenter. But this year he was tasked to be the very first host of the Golden Globes after god knows how long. Huge undertaking to take. I thought he was brilliant. I especially love his jabs at Collin Farrel, Mel Gibson and fellow Brit, Paul McCartney. Reading the reviews about his hosting stint, however leaves me feeling a little bit dismayed. Critics seem to think he was both "unispired" and "toothless". Why? Because he didn't come out and 'insulted' everyone in the room/ took only one sniped at NBC/ etcetera etcetera. Hallerh?!? He was hosting an awards show not a roasting - I think it's a tad inappropriate to bash everyone. The charmingly dry British humor he did I thought was spot on. And now I can't wait to get the DVD of Intervention of Lying.

The Geek Shall Inherit the Universe
They just won favorite comedy show in the recently concluded People's Choice Awards. And I am totally crushing on uber-geeky,Battlestar Galactica loving, non sarcasm/irony/humor detecting Sheldon Cooper, played brilliantly by Jim Parsons.

Let the downloading madness begins...
Ahhh I love September. It's the time when my favorite TV shows come out of hiatus and the time when major networks release their new lineup. And just like in a wedding, for this season, I have decided to watch something old and something new...

True Blood on my mind
I cannot wait for episode 11 of True Blood. Evan Rachel Wood finally makes an appearance as Queen Sophie Ann. I spent this afternoon marathon-ing season 2 of the famed vampire series. I'm such a sucker for vampire shows (that's why I really don't understand why I haven't been swept away by the whole Twilight mania) It started with Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That show had wit, angst, heart and death. Everything a punked teenage girl crave for. But now I realized my love for that show transcends time! Cause 10 years later I still think it's freakin' fantastic!

And now my choice vamp show is of course True Blood.

Alan Ball is such a genius. From the very intriguingly creepy opening billboard to the jaw dropping cliff hangers, he sets just the right tone of crazy.
I especially love episode 8 & 9. Godric finally makes an appearance. I think that's the most touching ep yet. Spoiler Alert: Godric is vamp-child who just happens to be the oldest vampire in Texas. Plus he is the maker of Eric (who this blogger thinks is a Scandivian god!) what could be more exciting than that, right? Turns out after 2000 years of immortality, Godric has evolved into an enlightened being and will try to set an example to his kind.
Clips for the upcoming episode, Frenzy. I wonder what kind of weirdness will Queen Sophie-Ann bring to the show?

Looking Forward: Project Runway Philippines Season 2

Woohoo. It's back! One of my favorite local shows ever! It's actually airing right now and all the aspiring designers are being introduced one by one. Looks like an interesting mix of characters. This should be an exciting season.
My brother went to its launch last week at Embassy. That annoying boy didn't even try and score moi some free invites. And he refuses to hand over the Php 5,000 VNC gift ccertificates he got that night. Shame shame. Must butter up to that boy soon. He was invited because PONDS is one of the sponsors of the show. I knew I should start working for Team Corprate once again.
Project Runway airs every Wednesday 10pm at ETC

Couch Potato Series: American Idol down to 10
Last night, the eleven Idol wannabes performed to the tune Dolly Parton would be proud of. It's Country night once again, time to turn those dials down a bit. Hehe. I have never understood the fascination behind country music. And I claimed to be a music lover. Maybe it's purely an American thing. Maybe I just can't fathon yawl-ing for singing. Either way the 11 Idol hopefuls gave it their all.
Short commentary:
Lil Rounds: sang Independence Day - Again something I do not get. The fanfare Lil' Rounds get from the judges. I want her out! NOW!!! She looks older than some of my aunts. Definitely not pop princess/queen material. Sure, she has some chops on her but seriously we all know that Idol is not JUST a singing contest (umm hello Justin Guarini, anyone?) Last I checked from the Eonline polls, Lil Rounds ranks as one of the bottom 3, next to Michael Sarver and Megan Joy. But you bet your a$% those judges will be saving their new judge save power on either this oldie or those other two overrated wannabes Adam or Danny. EWWW
Anoop Desai: Ahh my favorite - sang something I'm familiar with but the title's totally skipping my memory now. He is my Indian eye candy. He just exudes so much personality and a I-don't-really-care-much attitude that I sooo dig. He prolly knows he would not win Idol but that he still has his NCU degree to fall back on. Hope he last until the Top 5 though. Duh! Sanjaya, who was a loooot less talented and definitely not a looker made it past the 7th round, where's the justice in that!
Danny my-wife-died-Gokey: sang Jesus takes the wheel. Ok so he can sing. So he can belt out those high notes. So what! The fiance is giving me a hard time for giving Danny Gokey my stinker eye all the time when watching A.I. Yes I know, the powers to be at A.I. are the ones editing the whole dead wife thing, but seriously, he really is milking everything from that! Plus, A.I. producers have unfairly given him mooooore screen time in previous episodes, forcing this Robert Downey lookalike down our throats. ARGH!!
Spoiler: They eliminated Alexis Grace who sang Jolene. Ah good riddance. I felt a little dirty everytime I hear her say she will "dirty it up" for the judges. She looks barely 12 in red lipstick.

Couch Potato Series: The demise of Pushing Daisies

Sigh. I wanted this series to go the distance. I really love all the quirkiness that goes along each episode of Pushing Daisies. But I guess the powers that be at ABC's TV land didn't share my enthusiasm. The show got cancelled last November, but silly me only found time to blog about my Pushing Daisies devotion just now. They are still airing episodes every Tuesdays at ETC 2nd ave, but we all know that after episode 13 it's bye bye time. Sigh. Another one bites the dusts, and to think shows like 7th heaven gets to have a run for more than 6 seasons?! Where's the justice in that! I guess this show will just live on through dvd infamy. I just hope they placed all the un-aired episodes at the DVD special.

Couch Potato Series: American Idol Picks 3
As predicted they picked out the “dirty” girl Alexis to move on. She is one lucky contestant, had she been grouped in the next batch of 12s she would be in serious trouble. There are some massive female talents on that 2nd batch.
Danny Gokey, predictably, got in. Argh I really can’t stand him. And I hated the fact that newbie judge Kara was all pumped up that she actually called him her “hero” after his performance. Blah!
Michael Sarver, one of two blue collar worker in the competition, was the fan favorite. Or was it Danny Gokey and Michael was the top male contestant for this batch?? Whatever. I love Michael. I think he has a sweetheart for a face. Tough yet very adorable. BUT … I wanted Anoop Desai to get into the Top 12!

Sigh! I hope he gets picked on the Wild Card performance.

American Idol Kicks off Season 8
I am an American Idol geek slash freak. Except for season 6 wherein the show went snoozefest with boring contestants that I had no choice but to skip the season - I pretty much saw every episode of AI THRICE since season 1.
January 14 was definitely red marked on my calendar. AI premiered finally! Thank you Jesus!!!
Day 2 Pheonix Audition

Kara dio Guardi - The New Guy
There's a new judge in town. And she bites! When the bikini wearing contestant (Katrina Darrell) belted out a seemingly good rendition of an uptempo song - she instantly puts her down. Claws out now! Even more claw scratching when she issued this disclaimer
"This is not one of those, oh she's pretty that's why I am saying this.." lines. When Ms Bikini wearing contestant attempted to raise the pitch a notch higher, Ms thang' judge decided to sing along with her to show her up. Unfortunately Ms Bikini wearing contestant proves to be a bitch as well and decided to talk/claw back. "Your demonstration wasn't any better" She quipped. Snap!

Snap!Asides for that tension filled moment - one thing notable about tonight's episode is the annoyingly perky 16 year old Lea Marie. Who apparently is a huuge fan of Ms Thang Judge - go figure. I seriously cannot stand perky people. But yes, I have a bunch of friends who are like that whom I have learned to love and accept them...(Meaning: I put on my Ipod and take my early morning coffee to shut out evil perky spirits before my ears are ready to handle such monstrocity) But anyways, back to AI... Seriously this Lea Marie girl gave me the creeps. She was too happy, too giggly. Jumping around and smiling - I really wanted to let out a loud "Hell Yeah" when Simon said afterwards that there wasn't a second during that audition when he wasn't annoyed.
Ooooh one thing Ms Thang did good was that - somehow - by her sheer presence alone - Paula decided to get her act together. No more loony nonsense statements from her - well, at least for now.

Finally!! - Project Runway Finale

Rushed home, despite the usual Kick Off meetings during Wednesday. All to watch the finale of Project Runway Philippines. So... I was wrong, Philipp didn't win (sad face). Darn it, I wanted him to win so badly. He always had the IMHO the strongest designs. And his finale collection was very strong as well. He was able to make crochets look hip and modern. Yes even made me want to wear a crochet swim wear in Boracay.
But yes, he didn't win instead Aries was declared the very first Project Runway Philippines winner. In terms of the collection unveil, I must admit that Aries had the strongest collection, maybe not in terms of cohesiveness (umm hello, orange finale dress?!? Where did that come from) but in terms of production value. He has a great gasp of what will make the audience tick.

Exhibit 1. I thought it was weird when the model in the center first enter the runway. The dress was definitely an odd ball in the context of Aries' collection. But when the two other models entered and they all stopped mid center for "The Transformation", I had a feeling Aries had a 95% chance of winning (for sheer production value)

Exhibit 2. Yes! That dress in the middle was "transformed" into this three piece wardrobed. Very futuristic eh.

Exhibit 3. Hair, make-up - check

I really hope PRP gets picked up for a second season!!!

Project Runway Philippines

Last Friday over dinner, I found out that Dear Fiance’s friend and one of my most favorite persons in the world was actually involved in the production of Project Runway Philippines. Again for those not in the know – I totally adore this show. I look forward to meeting the up and coming designers one of these days. Unfortunately Fave Person had signed a contract and telling me would result to a Php 4M breached of it. Darn it! Is there no more trust amongst friends?!?
I want Philipp Tampus to win!!

Looking Forward: Project Runway Philippines
The title should more aptly read, looking forward despite certain circumstances...

Amongst all the franchised reality shows brought over to this side of the Pacific - i actually thought they did PR a pretty good justice (hmm Philippine's Next Top Model or Philippine Idol, agree?). It's a good thing also that it is being shown at ETC - a channel that's defintely more atuned to its target market.

I’m pissed. I was supposed to watch the live finale of Project Runway with my best friend in tow, or me in tow (she’s the one with the invites afterall). However due to yet another work related activity, instead of the runway I will be stuck along the highways going to Baguio that day.
Huff and Puff. Although I haven’t been able to religiously catch all the episodes of the show, I have been a fan of the US version of the show and this translated to an immediate affinity to its local counterpart. Nevermind if Rajo Laurel sometimes bothers me when he makes his judging comments. He is no Michael Kors that’s for sure. But i love love Jojie Loren, he is like Tim Gunn without trying to hard, even if he says "work, work, work" intentionally mocking Gunn, he still comes off as adorable.

One of the contestants, Eli was/is actually a professor for Saint Benilde. I don't know if that is something Benildians are proud or ashamed of. Try catching some of the replays on Youtube and you'll get my point. (He can be soo annoying at times!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-IAHui4gSs&feature=PlayList&p=264C78914B248001&index=0
What i loved/hated about the show is the fact that the 95% of the time the designers felt the need to address the audience in English. Nevermind if their tongues got twisted 360 degrees in trying to construct a simple sentence to either refute or acknowledge the judge's claim. They sound a lot less smarter tuloy than they would have had, had they only spoken in Filipino. It's Project Runway Philippines afterall.
But that being said, I am still pissed. I wanted to watch the finale!!!
PRP is being shown every Wednesdays at ETC

Much Ado Over Nothing
Hmmm. People seriously need to revamp their sense of humor. Or stop watching comedy shows altogether. If jokes about Filipino characters on a BBC show is now taboo, have we gone to that point werein anything not good said about us is immediately a cause for unifaction by those acronym organizations: one voice decrying the blasphemy of another country?!? Good Lord!
A friend sent an email regarding the bonfire that was Ateneo's way of celebrating their victory in the last UAAP. And by the looks of the article, i am made to assume that there's an on-going debate/discussion over this (lots of angry alumnis apparently). Was it done in good taste. Hell No! Think they got carried away? Probably (they don't win championships in basketball that often you know..cheers!). But does it merit a serious discussion worthy of epic proportions? Hmmmm. Again, people need to seriously rewire their definition of comedy - Be a little less delicate. Either that or you go watch AFC all the time. I'm sure nobody gets offended by the food network!

Couch Potato Series: One Tree Hill
I just finished season 4 and 5 of One Tree Hill. Yes that's what insomnia can do to you. I used to like One Tree Hill, nevermind that its plot revolves around the lives of the seemingly feeling tragic drama teens. It was able to hold my attention for the past two season and darn it if I start letting go now.Spoiler alert:
One thing that I liked about Season 5 is that they skipped the entire college years. We all know that teen shows that started in High School always end up with disastrous scripts once they move on to college (case in point: Dawsons Creek, The O.C.). Its just not possible given the dynamics in the States, for all the main characters to still be going to the same school once they finish High School. So instead of that ackward scenes where you as the viewer squirm at your seats wishing they did not do this sacrilege to your once darling show - S5 fast forwards to their lives months after college graduation. Haley and Nathan are with a this adorable 4 year old kid, Nathan's basketball glory days are behind him due to a stupid accident, Lucas has become a full-time writer with a new fiance, Brooke is now a glorified Paris Hilton, only with a more successful clothing line and Peyton well, somethings never change..Peyton is still pining over Lucas.

That's the only thing that drove me to pure frustration. If you watch all 40 plus episodes on one go..you get pretty much solved that puzzle piece of how Peyton's mind work. - Big drama queen who thinks tragedy will befall her anytime. And she keeps on stealing Lucas back! Damn it! I want an original storyline please. That episode run the first and second season already - I had to sit through to more new seasons of that! I always hate the lead female character in teen shows, because for some strange reasons writers seem to want her to be neurotic, chasing after someone with a boyfriend in the guise of "first love never dies" syndrome. Blech!
My future SIL has taken the task of downloading S6 of One Tree Hill, I'm hoping based on S5's cliff hanger that Lucas DID not picked Peyton.
